이 책은 오래전에 사서 계속 보고 있는 책으로 지금은 구할수가없다.

 

필자는 이 책을 아주 오래 전에 구매했다.

이 책의 저자 장하준교수님은 대한민국의 경제학자이자 케임브리지대학교 경제학부의 교수다.

이 책 그들이 말하지 않는 23가지 이외에도 <사다리 걷어차기> <나쁜 사마리아인들><국가의 역할> 등의 책이 있다.

 

이 책의 23가지 이야기는 ‘더 나은’ 자본주의란 어떤 것인지에 대한 글이다.

자본주의가 수많은 문제점과 제약이 있음에도 불구하고 오랜 학문에서 온 경험으로 인류가 만들어 낸 가장 좋은 경제 시스템이라고 말한다. ‘경제 시민으로서 권리’를 행사해 의사 결정권자들에게 올바른 길을 선택하도록 요구하는 데 전문 지식이 꼭 필요한 것은 아니다. 주요 원칙과 기본적인 사실만 알고 있어도 경제 문제에 대해 말할 수 있다고 저자는 강조한다.

 

사실 이 책은 책장에 두고, 두고두고 읽고 있다.

처음 들어가는 내용이 다소 어렵기도 하고 23가지를 금방 소화할수 있을것 같지만. 쉽지 않다..

하지만 이 책은 두고두고 곱씹어 읽고 싶은 책이다.

 

책 표지에 나와있는.. 메모.. (지금은 없어졌다) 는 이 책을 왜 읽어야 하고 왜 읽고 싶은지를 압축해 놓은 듯 하다.

 

200년전에 노예해방을 외치면 미친사람 취급을 받았고,

100년전에 여자에게 투표권을 달라고 하면 감옥에 집어 넣었습니다.

50년전에 식민지에서 독립운동을 하면 테러리스트로 수배를 당했습니다.

단기적으로 보면 불가능해 보여도 장기적으로 보면 사회는 계속 발전합니다.

그러니 지금 당장 이루어지지 않을 것처럼 보여도

대안이 무엇인가 찾고 이야기 해야 합니다.

The 23 stories in this book are about what 'better' capitalism is like.

It is said that capitalism is the best economic system created by mankind with long experience from learning, despite numerous problems and constraints. Expertise is not necessary to exercise "rights as economic citizens" to require decision-makers to choose the right path. The author emphasizes that knowing only the main principles and basic facts can talk about economic problems.

 

In fact, I keep this book on the bookshelf, and I keep reading it.

The first part is a bit difficult, and I think I can digest 23 things quickly. It's not easy..

However, this book is one that I want to read over and over again.

 

It's on the cover of the book.. Memo... (disappeared now) seems to be a compression of why you should read this book and why you want to read it.

 

200 years ago, I was treated like a madman when I shouted for the liberation of slaves,

A hundred years ago, when I asked a woman to vote, she put her in jail.

Fifty years ago, if you campaigned for independence in the colonies,

you were wanted as a terrorist.

It may seem impossible in the short term,

but in the long run, society continues to develop.

So even if it doesn't seem like it's going to happen right now

We need to find and talk about what the alternative is.
